Course overview
This session will provide immediate care and support in the critical moments before professional medical help arrives. This will be delivered through a combination of hands-on practice and interactive sessions; staff will gain the confidence and competence to handle real-life situations swiftly and efficiently. The training focuses on instilling confidence in staff to respond to school emergencies through early recognition, initiating treatment, and seeking help when necessary.
Format
The course lasts a full day with six hours of teaching time, involving two experienced instructors and up to 12 participants per cohort. Sessions are interactive and practical, supported by theoretical knowledge on minor ailment. Continuous assessment and support will be provided to each candidate.
Learning outcomes
The session will include the following:
- Basic life support in adults and children
- Choking in adults and children
- Bleeding heavily / haemorrhage control with large wounds
- Smaller wounds / nose bleeds / splinters
- Broken bones / strains / sprains
- Burns
- Asthma attack
- Head injuries
- Seizure.
