Course overview
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centered counselling style for addressing the common experience of ambivalence about change. This Foundation-level CPD-accredited programme will introduce evidence-based skills and approaches to explore and facilitate helpful changes in others to support health, growth and well-being. It can be applied in a range of areas, including lifestyle changes, substance misuse, long-term condition management and employment.
This interactive training introduces participants to the processes, skills and principles of Motivational Interviewing and will provide opportunities to observe and practice MI skills in a supportive environment using a range of learning techniques.
On full completion of this training you will receive a certificate and the opportunity to complete more advanced training and development in Motivational Interviewing.
Format
This can be delivered in three formats;
- Two full days, face to face
- Four half-days, online
- Hybrid: One full day face to face, and two half-days online
Learning outcomes
By the end of this programme learners will be able to:
- Describe what is Motivational Interviewing (MI) including key principles and processes
- Describe and demonstrate an awareness of the language of change and how this relates to MI practice
- Describe and demonstrate the core MI communication skills (OARS) in relation to exploring change with others
- Demonstrate how to share information in an MI consistent way
- Demonstrate collaborative planning in relation to change
- Identify how learning may be adapted and integrated into own practice.
